Welcome to our Website

Black Rock Elementary School is a Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 3 school of approximately 270 students that is nestled within the lovely hills of Litchfield County. We actively support students in their learning, academic and social development. We are fortunate to have a knowledgeable, dedicated staff that supports our students in fostering a positive collaboration with a wonderful parent base.

Each year, our school selects goals for our own emphasis on learning. It also allowed us to focus our energies towards a common purpose and establish a cooperative, community working together for student success. Our goals for the 2018-2019 school year are:

    • Implement common lessons and assessments based on Common Core State Standards.
    • Improve student learning in the areas of reading and writing.
    • Engage parents and the community at large in supporting our academic pursuits.

The purpose of our goals is to enhance the learning experience for all students at Black Rock School. It also allows us to direct our energies towards a common goal and establish a cooperative, community working together for student success.

Principal's Message

Dear Black Rock School Community,

Happy New Year! We’re having a great school year so far and eagerly look forward to the second half of the year. Staff and students have returned from winter vacation rested, rejuvenated, and ready share their kindness and talents!

We have several new and exciting initiatives in full swing this year, including our monthly Town Hall Meetings. These student-led meetings are held to promote our character pillars, as well as recognize accomplishments and achievements by the wonderful students in our school. Also, we continue many robust traditions, such as family literacy nights. We would like to thank our parent community for supporting our programs!

Each week, we communicate with our parent community with important school information and updates on our programs and offerings. I welcome the opportunity to communicate with all community members regarding your questions, concerns, or suggestions on how we can best serve the children of Thomaston.
